Programme Note

A Sneaker Wave is a phenomenon on the west coast of the US. It is a very large, unexpected type of wave, which gathers its force by taking on the energy of other smaller waves that it travels through. These waves can strike on calm or stormy days, sneaking up the beach and even onto dry land.

Talbot’s work is by association a ‘wave of sound’, formed of a single movement gathering its own energy, ideas and intricacies as it becomes its own Sneaker Wave.

Reviews

Sneaker Wave proved remarkably effective, building from sub-Glass/early Adams arpeggios to a thunderous, organ-enhanced climax, as Talbot's musical waves crashed on to the unlikely beach of the Proms arena.
Anthony Holden, The Observer

The orchestration is delicate and effective … the climax - the arrival of the sneaker wave itself, punched home by the entry of the Albert Hall organ - is suitably cataclysmic.
