Programme Note
Note:The first movement’s contrasting themes provide an interplay between ‘spikey’, rhythmically active music and a lovely melody. Opening with a piano introduction, the slow second movement becomes a mournful duet between the reeds, with comments and transitions provided by the piano. The third movement is a fun romp with jazzy metric changes piling atop one another, and then, a second contrasting theme becomes interspersed with the first, setting the reeds apart from the piano, the whole coming to a rollicking end.
