GROOVING (1968/2009) for piano solo
The word “grooving” means, literary, to dig, but is also used for a repeated movement (as with the word “microgroove” in connection with the old Long Playing records) – and in the hippie years it was used as an interest in revealing unknown layers of consciousness - by allowing it to float, i.e. making room for sensations otherwise missed. Grooving suggests an insistent inward surge towards the place where consciousness is at rest.
The material of “Grooving” is a very simple, ascending 4-tone motive, expanding to the many octaves of the piano, like a plant growing. As a contrast to this rather minimalistic concept a more improvised middle section is heard.
“Grooving” was, as written in 1968 “written for Mrs. Elisabeth Klein and dedicated to my self” (that is: my inner self).
The duration may vary between 10 and 13 minutes.
