Programme Note
Composer note:
Clocks (1985) was commissioned and recorded by the guitarist Sharon Isbin.
In the exploration of time, there is the local ticking of a repeated single quarter note which turns into intervals and chords later at various tempos throughout the piece. There is also a kind of "historical" time drawn from my past of: Latin American and flamenco styles of music that I heard throughout my childhood in South America, as well overtones from the music of Haydn and Bach which I played as a developing pianist.
