Programme Note
The Suite was adapted from the music to the historical radio drama King Arthur (by D. G. Bridson) first broadcast on 23 April 1937. The bulk of the original radio score was completed by 15 April. Some of the music was later used by Britten in Ballad of Heroes (1939) and the revised slow movement of the Piano Concerto (1945).
