Programme Note
This rhapsody was composed in 2012 and premiered at the Auditori de Girona 6th February of the same year by Albert Guinovart himself and the Orquesta Giorquestra, directed by Marcel Sabaté. Before that there are two different arrangements: one for piano and band and another one for piano and cobla, which is a traditional Catalan music ensemble.
This work is based on the popular themes of the traditional Catalonian festival of La Patum, celebrated during the Corpus Christi festivities in the town of Berga, Barcelona. It consists of several representations of mystic and symbolic figures, which dance to the rhythm of the music and drums. In 2005, this festival was included in the UNESCO Intangible cultural heritage list.
