Trumpet Concerto (2013)
- Edition Wilhelm Hansen Copenhagen (World)
Programme Note

My Trumpet Concerto is in three movements. The first movement is playful – the muted trumpet crawling in and out of the orchestra’s running melodies and layering noise textures. By the end of the movement, the trumpet embarks on a cadenza-like passage but the orchestra never leaves it alone and in the end engulfs it completely.
The second movement inhabits a barcarole-like universe (my eternal dream about Venice); but the sound of ticking clocks is brought to the fore and the dreamy mode leads unto the final movement: it is a staggering finale in which the trumpet at last escapes; however, by this time, the concerto is in fact over.
The trumpet concerto is written for Tine Thing Helseth and her unique, virtuosic handling of the instrument. Furthermore, the work is dedicated to my two daughters.
