Programme Note
Eugène Bozza's Concertino for Tuba shines the spotlight on one of the orchestra's most modest instruments.
Through Eugène Bozza's bluntly tonal language, which evokes that of Francis Poulenc by its sharp spirit, humour and liveliness, we discover a tuba capable of surprising velocity, wide melodic leaps and pure lyricism, as evidenced by the passages where the instrument truly sings, in high tessituras which are quite perilous for the tuba.
