Programme Note

Composer note
Oksoko is a three headed eagle.

In which the three heads are explained as representing the union of three races which contributed to the genesis of Russia, the "western" head representing the Varangians, the "eastern head" the Mongols and the central head the Slavs.

The work, however, does not relate to the genesis of this mythology.

In 2009, I began to use a series of title that are based on mythology fables for some of my works. These half gods half demons are at once familiar and foreign, figures alive across many cultures, latitudes and ages. This sensibility speaks to the belief I endure, of life we live are often exist in the lacuna of the third space.

We don’t know what exactly is an Oksoko. And yet we could often see ourselves in these mythological figures. As if, a memory residued from past of the future, future of the past.
