Franz Waxman composed a sweeping score for Anne of the Indies (20th Century Fox 1951) that some have referred to as a homage to Korngold. Directed by Jacques Tourneur, Jean Peters portrays Anne, the tempestuous captain of the pirate Schooner Sheba Queen, who roams the Caribbean seeking revenge against her father, pirate-captain “Blackbeard” Thomas Gomez. After saving the lives of Louis Jourdan, his true love Debra Paget, and stoic first officer Herbert Marshall, she goes to a watery grave.
