It is important that the last tone is allowed to die away
- Hommage to Per Nørgård
When asked to composer a work to celebrate Per Nørgårds 90 years, I looked in my study and found a copy of Voyage into the Golden Screen. Nørgårds technique text immediately struck me. How poetic they were.
“It is important that the last note is allowed time to die away completely”. There I had found my inspiration. Ausklingen, to fade away.
“damp, loosen, remove”, instructions, repetitions, fading away with the music.
