Programme Note

As a new addition to the choral repertoire, Sicut Cervus draws inspiration from the timeless text of Psalm 42:1, which expresses a deep yearning for spiritual fulfilment and offers singers and audience alike an opportunity for spiritual reflection and emotional resonance. The title, translated as “As the deer longs,” serves as a poignant metaphor for the human soul's desire for connection with the divine substances.

Through evocative musical gestures and poignant text painting, Sicut Cervus invites listeners on a journey of introspection and transcendence. The piece portrays interplay as well as an integrity of voices and creates a tapestry of sound that reflects the complexity of the human experience, from moments of ‘quiet intensity’ of contemplation to soaring expressions of hope and longing.
