Programme Note
L'œuvre au noir, composed in the summer of 1990, was commissioned by the Paragon ensemble with funds provided by the Scottish Arts Council and the City of Glasgow. The first performance, conducted by David Davies, was given in Glasgow by the Paragon Ensemble on 14 January, 1991. This work is the sixth in James Dillon's Nine Rivers cycle, and if performed as such, should be followed without a break by éileadh sguaibe (published in Edition Peters as P-7407). L'oeuvre au noir may also be performed independently.
