Programme Note

Searching for Roots can be seen as a journey from the initial high D to the final lowest D, from cold colours toward warm colours. It begins with short symmetrical chromatic motifs on the glockenspiel and vibraphone. This material then spreads to the woodwind, as gradually the soundscape is filled with cluster-like material. Under this intense activity a D minor triad emerges on the strings. These contradictory elements form the basis for the subsequent development.
