Programme Note
To the memory of my mother (1930–2022)
Written in the days following the shocking news of my mother's death, the result of a tragic fall in February 2022. The work takes the form of a slow lament, cast towards edge of sound, a quiet mourning song which echoes with the art of the pipers. Here there are no quotes from the tradition, rather the work weaves an atmosphere of the Scots lament and that sense of loss. The subtitle is taken from that great poem of loss 'Ae Fond Kiss' by Robert Burns.
