Mantras & Alleluyas (2007)
(for S.A.T.B Chorus & Percussion)

In these three pieces verbal jewels extracted from diverse sacred traditions are chanted as mantras:

1. Alleluya, Shalom.

2. Avalokiteshvara, Anur, Ahimsa.

3. Sancti Spiritus adsit nobis gratia.

The duration of each piece is flexible so that a performance can extend into a timeless domain or fit into a program as required.

Mantras and Alleluyas was composed at the request of Christopher Latham for The Four Winds Festival. I gratefully acknowledge the contribution of Father Arthur Bridge and Ars Musica Australis to this commission, and also that of Mary Hoy.
