Programme Note
Poor settlers struggle to survive on a small, barren section in inland Australia. A black comedy, balancing farce with melodrama, the squatter's simple-minded daughter attempts an excape from her blighted existence; but motherhood and a veneer of education do not alleviate the sense of emotional stagnation.
