The sixtieth anniversary of the birth of Stephen Oliver is being marked by a series of performances involving some of the composer’s closest collaborators, Simon Callow, Graham Vick and vocal quartet Cantabile among them.
Oliver, who died in 1992, was a composer of dazzling ability best known for his stage works. These include music to many landmark RSC productions, Blondel (a musical created with Tim Rice), and operas of all kinds, ranging from short scenas and chamber operas to full scale works such as Timon of Athens, which was premiered at English National Opera in 1992.
