4th Retrospective
(for double bass and orchestra)- Henry Litolff’s Verlag GmbH & Co. KG (World)
Programme Note
4th Retrospective is the fourth piece in a series of orchestral pieces where I go back to earlier material and look at it in a different way. I do this mostly by re-composing existing material through my technology Reactional Music where I can import the ”musical DNA” of a piece and then see what else can be obtained from the same material.
At the writing of the first piece in this series 2016 (commissioned for the inauguration of the new Campus for the Royal College of Music in Stockholm) it was fifteen years since I graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2001. When I graduated it was fifteen years since I first started playing music in a local punk band in 1986. Therefore my graduation from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm marked half time of my active musical life, and that seemed like a good starting point for a new series of pieces that focus on retrospection and self-reflection.
4th Retrospective is commissioned by ShareMusic and Västerås Sinfonietta for double bass soloist Rick Stotijn. The other pieces in the Retrospective series have been commissioned by the Brandenburger Symfoniker, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Musica Vitae and the KMH orchestra. /Jesper Nordin"
