Lim Fantasy of Companionship (2019)
(for Piano and Orchestra)

What started as a story of a little girl and her stuffed toy lion called Alan, evolved in to an emotional journey of companionship that carries an optimistic outlook on the future, with the bringing together of humanity, technology and love. This is a story of companionship, told through the power of music.

The project was created by Dr Susan Lim and Christina Teenz Tan, who initially produced an album of songs called Alan that was written and recorded by Matthieu Eymard, Ron Danziger and Joi Barua – three talented musicians from different corners of the globe. Dr Lim then took it further and engaged composer Maru Martin to rewrite it into a huge orchestral fantasy, combining choir, band, orchestra and a dizzyingly captivating solo piano. This is the form that Lim Fantasy of Companionship now takes. It has also been combined with beautiful animation to create a multi-award winning short film about the story of Alan.

This inescapably uplifting work received its premiere and recording from the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Arthur Fagen, with pianist Tedd Joselson.

Combined with the two remaining chapters in Alan’s story - Lim Cosmic Rhapsody and Lim Symphony of the Oceans – audiences can listen to the full journey and come away with a joyous outlook on the future we will share together.
